BMW produced a eight short film featuring the Driver (Clive Owen). The Driver would be hired to drive important people from A to B safely, usually showing off the performance of rented BMW vehicles.

These films were produced in 2004 for the Internet and were directed by renowned directors such as Guy Ritchie, Ang Lee, Alenjandro González Iñarritu and enjoyed a huge success.

Never Gonna Give You Up

A deconstruction of the 80's and what they really meant musically is what succeeded all night long, in the Little Tuesdays. Most, if not all, is remembered through the hazy images of bright neon lights, heavily sprayed hair and the dance of Rick Astley.

I can't really remember many of the musical appearances, much less the order in which they came out but I am trying. Some of them are from the early 90's but what the tuck?

I always denied the eighties but deep down they marked my childhood and thus I remember that epoch with happiness and party motherfucker!!!

Did I miss one? Send me the link to an embeddable video!

HTDA: The Space in Between

If you have been following Trent Reznor's new musical project, How to Destroy Angels, along with his wife Mariqueen Maandig you are surely to be surprised at their sort of new sound. Sure, it has the Reznor clic on it but IMO the vocals give it a new twist which I find appealing.

They have released a video with their first EP entitled The Space in Between. Check it out, it surely has the Reznor signature all over it.The EP is scheduled to be released Summer 2010.

UPDATE: Apparently, there is another stand alone song, A Drowning, in Youtube. This is not a video, so don't troll of the image does not change, it's just for auditory experiences. And if you look closely within the video, you may find answers on where to download the mp3.

Golden Nature

I have previously written (poorly) about Phi before, this magic number that have been proclaimed as the beautiful number due to its multiple appearances in all things considered aesthetically pleasant. This golden number (1.61803...) has been found to rule in the shapes of nature's own, from the micro to the macro and this video is just an awesome example of the magnitude, balance and beauty of this golden ratio.

The Third and the Seven

Videomaking is all in the way a camera captures that angle when all the surroundings are in perfect sync with the light, the colors, reflections and sometimes floating pieces of unreal beauty.

This short film represents the beauty of architecture through the eyes of Alex Roman. In the first moments of the video, you will not believe the photography skills this guy possess. Later, you will not believe what you are seeing.

Pure awesomeness.

If you found the latter video amazing along with the color, composition, DoF (depth of field), you will likely revel with this video depicting the compositional breakdown used in "The Third and the Seven"

oPeTH @ MTY

This is the first time Opeth comes to Monterrey and it was a concert to remember. Definitely one of the best I've ever been in a long time.

Opeth is one of those bands that cannot be defined within one genre. Each song traverse through moments of brutal hammering sounds and in a moment, through seas of tranquility. Just give Opeth a listen, if you haven't before, and you'll hear the wide accoustic spectrum that Opeth masters.

Opeth is a swedish Progressive Metal band that begun its life since 1990.

I hope they return, as they saw that the have a huge and admiring fan base here in Mexico.

Running Up That Hill

By Kate Bush
[ORIGINAL] (released 1985)

"Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)" was the first single from Kate Bush's 1985 album Hounds of Love. Written by Bush, it was released as a single in the UK on August 5, 1985. Bush was signed by EMI at the age of 16 after being recommended by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour.

By Placebo
(2003)

Placebo covered "Running Up That Hill", releasing it originally on the bonus disc of their 2003 album Sleeping with Ghosts.

By Within Temptation
(2003)

A symphonic twist of Kate Bush's original, released in 2003

By Chromatics
(2007)

Covered by Chromatics appearing in the album Nightdrive, Ruth Radelet's voice is just mesmerizing

"I was trying to say that, really, a man and a woman, can't understand each other because we are a man and a woman. And if we could actually swap each other's roles, if we could actually be in each others place for a while, I think we'd both be very surprised! And I think it would be lead to a greater understanding. And really the only way I could think it could be done was either... you know, I thought a deal with the devil, you know. And I thought, 'well, no, why not a deal with God!' You know, because in a way it's so much more powerful the whole idea of asking God to make a deal with you. You see, for me it is still called "Deal With God", that was its title. But we were told that if we kept this title that it wouldn't be played in any of the religious countries, Italy wouldn't play it, France wouldn't play it, and Australia wouldn't play it! Ireland wouldn't play it, and that generally we might get it blacked purely because it had 'God' in the title."

NIN

I am a big fan of music and, thus, I find crative music very amusing. There are few musical groups that compose tracks with such creativity, that they manage to make listeners feel exactly what they meant.

One of such groups is Nine Inch Nails, or NIN for short. They hail from Cleveland and have been around since 1988 when Trent Reznor founded the group. They have released 8 albums, with the last 2, The Slip and Ghosts, being released as free downloads.

They played At the Motorokr Fest 2008 at Mexico City Saturday October 18, 2008. Their show is incredibly amazing with giant screens and effects. Definitely one of the best concerts I've gone to. A must for fans of industrial rock music.

EDIT: If you haven't been following this band, you can listen to their music for free in their Listen Section, give them a try if you haven't, after all, it's free!

The played setlist was as follows:

1.999,999
2.1,000,000
3.Letting You
4.Discipline
5.March of the Pigs
6.The Frail
7.Closer
8.Gave Up
9.The Warning
10.Vessel
11.5 Ghosts I
12.25 Ghosts III
13.19 Ghosts III
14.Piggy
15.The Greater Good
16.Pinion / Wish
17.Terrible Lie
18.Survivalism
19.The Big Come Down
20.Only
21.The Hand That Feeds
22.Head Like a Hole

---Encore---

23.Echoplex
24.Hurt
25.In This Twilight

Now two videos, Closer and Vessel respectively, played at the Motorokr Fest 2008 at Mexico City, 18/Oct/08:

Halo 3: Recon

A new campaign is brewing inside Bungie Studios, the same franchise that gave the Halo Trilogy to the world and, thus, changed how the world would look at video games afterwards.

In the Halo Trilogy: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3, a story of the last (apparently) man of his kind, a Spartan, unfolds (He's an genetically and technologically augmented super soldier, capable of feats beyond normal human strenght and endurance) and his fight to free mankind from total anihilation by a religious covenant of alien races who deems humanity unworthy of survival is the main course of action throughout the series.

The Covenant, as mentioned before, is a group of diverse alien races driven by religion and most of them are proficient in war. Needless to say, they are more technologically advanced than humanity: better weapons, more warriors, better warships.

The war with this Covenant goes on for years and we only survive because they can't find all the worlds with human colonies, but they kept looking until every last human soul was glassed. This Spartan is a military experiment codenamed Spartan-117 (the number was used to identify every member of this special force) and almost in the end, his fight leads him to New Mombasa where the story reaches climax. The Covenant finally found Earth and are kept at bay because of the discovery of an ancient Forerunner structure (the Forerunners are the gods of the Convenant, an ancient mega-advanced civilization that left existence without a trace of what happened millenia ago).

It is in this point of the story where Halo 3: Recon will take place, but from a different view. You are now an ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper), or Helljumpers as they are colloquially known, and must pave your way in a mission in more strategic and stealthy ways than before with Master Chief, now you are a mere human. ODST's, similar to Navy SEALS or the British SAS, are the special forces of the UNSC (United Nations Space Command) and are deployed in hot zones and extremely dangerous missions.

This is all that has been unveiled at the moment, but I believe that Recon will have elements of squad operation, pretty much like Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter in which you lead a squad into hostile zones and give orders depending on the situation. An interesting point of view I might add, but lets wait for more info before jumping into conclusions.

Invaluable Darkness Tour 2008

Dimmu Borgir returned to Monterrey with their Invaluable Darkness Tour this last saturday (04/Oct/08) and this was the first time I have attended one of their concerts and I must say that they offer quite a show.

Dimmu Borgir is a Symphonic Black Metal group from Norway and have been around since 1993. Their line-up has changed over time but their current Line-up is as follows:

  • Shagrath (Stian Thoresen) – vocals, guitar, bass guitar, drums, synthesizer (1993–)
  • Silenoz (Sven Atle Kopperud) – guitar (1993–), backing vocals (1994–1996, 2005)
  • Mustis (Øyvind Mustaparta) – keyboards, synthesizer (1998–)
  • ICS Vortex (Simen Hestnæs) – clean vocals (1998–), bass guitar (1999–)
  • Galder (Thomas Rune Andersen) – guitar (2000–)
  • Hellhammer (Jan Axel Blomberg) – drums (2005–on hiatus)
  • Tony Laureano – drums (live) (2004–2005, 2007–)
I found some videos from the concert at Monterrey so if you didn't go, you can have an idea of it and if you did, well, remember to head-bang!:

Iron Man, Spider Man and Hulk Animation

Since the last Iron Man movie, I have started to like this character more. I'm no fan of the Spider-man flix, they're too cheesy for my taste and the last Hulk movie did better than the first one.

This animation, fan-made or not, is pretty worth watching...

The Strings of Everything

I am going LuC:D this eventful evening. Well, it was not so eventful after all, but some things DID happen. Anyway, what will be the topic now?

Well, the other day I was stumbling around some videos until I stumbled on the first part of three (there may be more, I don't know) videos that explained the String Theory. This Strings are supposed to unify two theories that by themselves, explain perfectly everything within their realm. One is the Theory of Relativity, which deals with one of the four forces that rule everything in the universe: Gravity; and the other is Quantum Physics which deals with the other three forces that describe the smallest of particles: Electromagnetism, Strong Nuclear Force and the Weak Nuclear Force. This four forces coexist in the same universe but until now, we have yet to understand how to unify this two branches of physics and the String Theory is said to be the bridge between these two and not without controversy, of course.

Enough chit-chat, let's get to the videos:

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

eTHeReaL RóS

I don't remember the time I was given knowledge of the existence of an Icelandic group that goes by the name Sigur Rós (which means Victory Rose and is also Jónsi Birgisson's sister, who was born the same day the band was formed).

I must admit that, given my metal background, I found their music hard to digest because it was nothing like I had heard before. One time, when I was thinking by myself (those lucid moments I use to have) I was playing all my music collection at random when suddenly, 'Svenf-g-englar' comes up and in my stupor I begun to relax and I actually felt different. I liked it alot so I went to my PC to see the group's name and what song was playing. To my surprise it was Sigur Rós, a group I was thinking of removing from my collection because I couldn't assimilate their music.

Sigur Rós' music is ethereal, as if it was created and sung by angels. They manage to combine different feelings within the same song and at the same time. 'Olsen Olsen' for example, fills me with happiness and at the same time I feel nostalgic, so I feel happy and sad at the same time. I don't know if this happens to everyone but this music really pulls some emotional strings in me.

Well, this is one of my favorite songs by Sigur Rós, the first I ever 'listened' to carefully and the video is... well, if you wish, you can leave a comment.

Cheers!
